Prof. Alemayehu is a Senior Advisor (consultant) who supports ‘a Livestock Information Vision Ethiopia’ (aLIVE) Program, where he provides expertise on livestock issues, program design, and implementation. He also serves as a liaison to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Alemayehu is a professor of Veterinary Epidemiology with extensive experience and understanding of the critical challenges in the livestock sector. Over the course of his more than 20-year career, he has gained a wealth of experience related to agriculture, animal health services, livestock production & productivity, and value chain analysis in different livestock production systems.
Prof. Alemayehu served at Hawassa University, a higher education institution, in different positions, including Vice President for Research & Technology Transfer, Research Director, Instructor, and Researcher. Throughout his academic career, he gained an in-depth understanding of the development of veterinary education and training curricula to international standards, and he is an experienced educator and trainer.
He was also involved in the design, implementation, and supervision of several projects focusing on the epidemiological surveillance, analysis & reporting of both qualitative & quantitative data, leading to the prevention & control of major animal diseases of economic and public health importance.
Alemayehu holds an MSc in Epidemiology and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Addis Ababa University, along with numerous professional training credentials. He is multilingual and proficient in English, Afaan Oromo, and Amharic.
