Christine Sumog-oy is the Country Lead for the National Models for Women’s Safety Online (NMWSO) Program in the Philippines. She has over 16 years of experience in peacebuilding, human rights advocacy, and multi-sector initiatives across fragile and conflict-affected regions in Africa, Asia, and North America.

Christine’s work spans research, program leadership, and capacity building. She has conducted research on engaging men and boys in redress for sexual and gender-based violence in Northern Uganda, collected oral stories of Filipino women domestic workers in the U.S., and implemented projects in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan addressing online safety for women and girls. She has supported the training of over 250 digital community stewards in South and Central Asia, helping them become effective leaders promoting online safety and digital resilience.

She also managed a regional peacebuilding institute in Africa, delivering modules on conflict transformation, trauma healing, and digital resilience, while maintaining a network of 1,500 peacebuilders across the Great Lakes Region, especially Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya. Christine has supported peacebuilding projects in Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka, assisting content creators, women, and youth in leadership across fragile contexts. In Mindanao, she mobilized women as ceasefire volunteers and helped gather over a million signatures in support of the peace process. She also worked alongside more than 500 indigenous tribal leaders to facilitate peace pacts for the peaceful resolution of their ancestral domain claims.

Christine holds a Master’s in International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame, USA, is a Global Change Leaders Fellow at the Coady International Institute, Canada, and is one of the pioneers of the Young Leaders Program at the National Defense College of the Philippines. She is passionate about promoting gender equality and building safer, more resilient communities, both online and offline.

Her personal advocacy project, ‘Love in a Maze,’ is an online forum for discussions on raising children in a digital world. The project recognizes that parenting in today’s digital landscape can feel like navigating a maze, and emphasizes that with love as our guide, parents can find their way. Christine created this space to share experiences and insights with women on the same journey.
