Viorel Chihai is a senior software engineer at DG, with over 15 years of experience in software development. Currently, he is working on the aLIVE Livestock Information System Program (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Ethiopia, 2022 – Present), where he researches the top five livestock systems and provides architectural feedback to support the integration of key systems for the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture. Viorel is actively involved in proposing technical solutions and optimizing the Livestock Information System (LIS) by implementing data standards and enhancing the existing systems.
Previously, Viorel played a pivotal role in the development and support of the Aid Management Platform (AMP), providing on-site assistance, software deployment, network infrastructure management, and AMP training in countries such as Tanzania, Gambia, Chad, and Malawi. His focus on collaborating with local teams ensured AMP’s successful implementation, contributing significantly to the platform’s development and evolution.
In addition to these projects, Viorel has contributed to the Tobacco Control Data Initiative, the Asian Development Bank Project Explorer, and the NEITI Audit Automation. He specializes in backend development, Java-based programming, and data integration, focusing on building complex systems to meet evolving requirements.
Outside of work, Viorel enjoys traveling, riding his bike, and playing intellectual games. He has been volunteering as a referee, head referee, and judge for FIRST robotics competitions (FLL and FTC) since 2021. He holds a Master’s Degree in Information Technologies from the Technical University of Moldova.
