For cashew farmers, producers, processors, and others in the West African cashew sector to increase profits, reduce loss, and improve global competitiveness, comprehensive and reliable data is required. Development Gateway has partnered with Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA) under the USDA West Africa PRO-Cashew project to develop the Cashew-IN data collection and analysis platform.

Launching this week, the VIFAA Ghana Fertilizer Dashboard aims to fill key fertilizer information gaps, increase data-driven policy and investment decisions in the fertilizer sector, and develop comprehensive, user-centered fertilizer data dashboards. Here is a deep dive into what is visualized on the dashboard.

Professor Victor O. Chude is the Registrar/CEO of Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS), where his work centers around efforts to produce and use more region and crop-specific fertilizers to increase crop yields and food security. Professor Chude describes how the newly launched VIFAA Dashboard supports his work and feeds into decision-making.

DG has been implementing projects in French-speaking African and Caribbean countries since 2007. Here we highlight DG's ongoing work in Francophone countries in Africa and the Caribbean. 

Armel Cyrille Brou, DCDJ Fellow in Côte d’Ivoire, provided support to the data management team at an Ivorian health facility focused on treating patients with HIV/AIDS. Armel developed an application that reduces the time spent calculating patient program schedules from five minutes to less than 30 seconds.

DCDJ Data Fellows assigned to work with the National Ministry of Education in Côte d'Ivoire proposed new methods of data collection based on data collection officers’ needs. They introduced Tableau as a new way of visualizing data and creating dashboards, and conducted in-person introductory training sessions of the tools – working with partners to ensure they understood the benefits of the tool and can use them independently. 

In partnership with Africafertilizer.org, the International Fertilizer Development Center, the Ghana Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana Statistical Service, the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Cocoa Board, and other partners, DG had a soft launch of the new Ghana fertilizer dashboard.
