HIV/AIDS Response Through Youth-Led Community Mapping in Côte d’Ivoire

With support from DCDJ, local youth in Côte d’Ivoire organized a successful mapathon to get community resources, landmarks, and risk zones in Daloa – particularly those relevant to young people – on the map. Through the process, they acquired new skills including OSM tracker to develop map layers, how to collect local data, and how to communicate results stored in a new database developed through the program.

Ali
Building an Efficient Database to Improve Data Use in Côte d’Ivoire

Ali Diakité is an alum of the first DCDJ Fellowship cohort. After two months of intensive data science training, he was placed with the National AIDS Control Program (PNLS), the government agency that coordinates the national response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in Côte d’Ivoire. During the Fellowship, Ali built a solution that noticeably improved PNLS' efficiency and data quality. As the primary HIV/AIDS control program in Côte d’Ivoire, PNLS uses the tool to make direct improvements to its data quality, timeliness, and epidemic response.

Building Côte d’Ivoire’s National HIV/AIDs Capabilities to Better Use Data & Tools for Decision-Making at PNLS

Through the DCDJ Fellowship program in Côte d’Ivoire, youth are trained in data science skills and placed in organizations where they can support data use in the fight against HIV/AIDS. At her placement site, Flore Koffi identified the opportunity to enhance the use of the data by creating a regularly updated, real-time, centralized source.

DCDJ SuperFellows: Reinforcing Improvements & Sustainability in the Data Ecosystem

Since 2018, Development Gateway has led the Des Chiffres et Des Jeunes (DCDJ) project. A mainstay of DCDJ is the Data Fellowship program, which provides data science training to young professionals in Cote d’Ivoire, followed by internships with government ministries, agencies, or NGOs that are part of the fight against HIV/AIDS. The SuperFellows reinforce capacity building and sustainability in the data ecosystem.

Narrow the Gendered Data Divide by Investing in Women

As we approach Beijing+25, awareness about the literal value of gender equality continues to rise—but actual progress has stalled. The 2020 World Economic Forum Gender Gap Report reveals women’s under-representation is most acute in data, digital, and technology fields that will drive economic growth over the next decade. According to the report, just 12 percent of cloud computing, 15 percent of engineering, and 26 percent of data and artificial intelligence professionals are women.

Announcing the Data for Youth Services Collaborative (DYSC) in Côte d’Ivoire

PRESS RELEASE – As an international nonprofit, Development Gateway has become known for international thought leadership on data for development and our experience in country-led data programs around the world. We are pleased to announce that DG has received an award from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to implement an innovative, results-based project, “Data for Youth Services Collaborative (DYSC) in Côte d’Ivoire.” Over the next 27 months, we will bolster the sub-national supply and use of data for Ivorian citizens, engage youth as champions of these services, and fuel innovation.
